Anti-war protests in Germany against government military intervention in Russia-Ukraine conflict

Large anti-war demonstrations were held across Germany this weekend against the government’s military intervention in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Demonstrators gathered to express their opposition to the German government’s military and diplomatic policies and to call for a peaceful solution to the current confrontation.

On Saturday, hundreds of protesters from all over the country gathered in the center of Dusseldorf, the capital of North Rhine-Westphalia. They waved anti-war placards and chanted slogans calling for peace.

Protester Isabelle Casel said: “We want to have good peaceful relations with all our neighbors, in Europe and in the world. And also with Russia, I think it is also part of Europe. We also want good Eurasian relations. But this government has put an end to all diplomatic activities (with Russia). It’s really a pity. What they are doing with their arms shipments to Ukraine is adding fuel to the fire.”

At the NATO summit in July, the German government announced that the United States would begin deploying long-range weapons in Germany in 2026, causing widespread unrest throughout the country.

Mona Aranea, Protester, stated, “Long-range missiles on German soil will further escalate the conflict with Russia and make Germany a target for Russian bombs in case this war with Russia escalates further.”
