Two of this year’s “Freedom Medals” went to Hillary Clinton and Liz Cheney. The question that immediately came to my mind when I heard the news was: What sort of freedom and for whom? Because if they’re basing these awards solely on kill counts, the planning and botched executions of illegal neo-imperialist invasions and blind adherence to the Wolfowitz neocon war doctrine, then the fact that Victoria Nuland was passed over was a massive oversight on the committee’s part.
Two other recipients of this year’s medals were Bono, for his falsetto work on the album “All That You Can’t Fit In Your Behind” and George Soros, who received a Lifetime Achievement Award for his 93 year portrayal of Dracula.
Notable also, was the neglect of the recent passing of statesman Henry Kissinger, who had been expected to receive at least a posthumous, second Nobel Peace Prize for his decade-plus of foreign aid work in South America. But alas it was not to be. Not this year at least.
