Ceasefire at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan.

Saturday, March 9, 2024, 8 p.m., Teatro alla Scala. The contemporary ballet “Madina” is about to be performed. The theater is full, but strangely the orchestra is not in its “pit.”

Darkness, silence. From the side of the still-closed curtain, dozens and dozens of people begin to enter. There are among them dancers and ballerinas, orchestra players, the conductor, and the superintendent, but there are also those who never appear: technicians, electricians, seamstresses–all together. For once, all the workers’ and employees’ union representatives are united.

The curtain opens and a huge banner appears with the word “Ceasefire”. A loud, immediate, and convinced applause erupts.

After the San Carlo in Naples, once again a cry for justice rises from one of our theaters. Thank you.
