From Combatants for Peace, April 29th 2025, 20th Israeli-Palestinian Joint Memorial Ceremony

On April 29th, the eve of Yom HaZikaron (Remembrance Day), we will gather once again to honour all lives lost to the conflict. Instead of deepening division, we choose to stand together in mourning. We won’t allow our pain to fuel hatred – we choose to transform it into a force for peace.

The Joint Memorial Ceremony is now in its 20th year and will be organised this year by Palestinians and Israelis from Combatants for Peace and the Parents Circle – Families Forum. It is a bold act of defiance against the endless cycle of violence and those that choose to sustain it. It will feature testimonies from bereaved families, musical performances, and messages of hope from human rights leaders, all united in the belief that true healing can only begin when we recognize each other’s suffering.

This year, grief weighs heavier than ever. Since the horrors of October 7th and the devastating war in Gaza, too many families – Israeli and Palestinian – have been shattered by unbearable loss; while the pain is overwhelming, we refuse to let it harden our hearts. Instead of allowing grief to be manipulated into hatred, and instead of accepting revenge as justice, we choose a different path.

The Ceremony does not seek to equate loss or compare pain, but we do seek to humanize everyone, to recognize that every person taken by this conflict was a person with dreams, a family, and a future that was stolen.

This is not just an event, it is a statement of courage and a display of what is possible when hope overcomes immense personal tragedy. We refuse to let our personal and collective losses lead to more bloodshed. There is another way!

We choose to honour every life lost, Israeli and Palestinian alike, because only by acknowledging each other’s pain we can reclaim our humanity and begin to heal

The event will be broadcast live from an undisclosed location in Israel and screened in multiple locations around the world.
