G20 and nuclear weapons: ICAN’s commentary

G20 members must go beyond reiterating their condemnation of the threats of the use of nuclear weapons

The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) calls on G20 members to go beyond reiterating the condemnation of nuclear threats already formulated at the Bali summit last November.

The G20 members, in the statement from the New Delhi summit, reiterated their condemnation of nuclear threats yesterday, calling them “inadmissible”.

Responding to the statement, Executive Director of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, Melissa Parke, said this is not enough:

“G20 leaders today reaffirmed the obvious truth that the use, or threat of use, of nuclear weapons is unacceptable.
All G20 members must work towards the elimination of nuclear weapons as an urgent priority, including, for those who have not already done so, by signing and ratifying the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, without delay.”
