International Uranium Film Festival Starts Today at Loyola University in Chicago with the Legendary Atomic War Movie “On the Beach”

Sunday the Festival Presents the U.S. Premiere of Oscar Nominated Documentary, “Building Bombs” (1990), Makes 4k Restoration Premiere at Music Box Theatre

Taking place this weekend, the Oscar nominated documentary BUILDING BOMBS (1990) makes its US Restoration Premiere in Chicago. With filmmakers Mark Mori and Susan J. Robinson in attendance for a post screening Q&A, the evening promises to evoke important conversation about America’s complicated nuclear history and what it means at this moment in time.<

The new 4K restoration, supported by the Academy Film Archive screens at the Music Box Theatre on Sunday, March 31st at 4:30p and revisits the glory days of the atomic age, its legacy of nuclear weapons waste, and its troubling questions still unanswered. Individual stories and rare archival footage reveal the inner workings of one of the world’s largest nuclear bomb plants and its toll on the environment and human hearts. The film originally sparked a movement by ordinary people and rock stars that changed U.S. national policy.

BUILDING BOMBS is a story of people whose lives and livelihoods are wed to the Savannah River nuclear plant and of how they faced complex personal and professional choices with courage and dignity.
