Russia ready for dialogue with Ukraine, Kremlin says

Russian President Vladimir Putin has reiterated his readiness for dialogue with Ukraine and that an aborted 2022 peace deal could serve as a basis for resuming negotiations, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday.

In a meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on Thursday, Putin said Moscow was in favor of resuming negotiations, but that they should not be aimed at “imposing a project that has nothing to do with reality”.

Peskov said the “Istanbul agreements”, a draft peace pact agreed upon between Russia and Ukraine in March 2022, could serve as a basis for resuming talks, although there have been many changes since then.

He mentioned that the Kremlin does not believe that the Ukrainian side is ready to negotiate with Russia.
