Dr Sabiha Baloch is the leader of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee, an organization committed to the struggle for Baloch rights and actively raising its voice against the ongoing genocide of the Baloch nation. She is also the former vice president of the Baloch Students Action Committee.
Her cousin and brother were previously abducted by the Pakistani military due to her political activism. They were detained for three months and later released. Today, her father Meer Basheer Ahmed has been abducted by Pakistani forces from Hub, Balochistan , again as a consequence of her activism. Pakistani authorities have stated that her father will only be released if she surrenders herself.
Dr Sabiha was earlier detained by Pakistani forces in Gwadar during a Baloch national gathering and was later released. She continues to face harassment from the Pakistani state through various intimidation tactics.
At present, multiple BYC leaders, supporters and activists are being abducted or detained. Dr Mahrang Baloch, Sabgutullah Baloch, Beebarg Baloch, and Sammi Deen were all detained. While Sammi has been released, Dr Mahrang Baloch remains in custody, and the whereabouts of Beebarg Baloch are still unknown.
These are clear acts of collective punishment and a serious violation of basic human rights.
