Thirteen questions searching for an answer

When the population requested investment in health, education and work, the answer was always the same: there is no money and we have to tighten our belts. Where now does so much funding for rearmament come from?

If Russia wanted to invade Europe, why doesn’t it do so straight away instead of waiting for us to rearm?

If we are fighting to defend our democracies, why are we destroying them while ignoring the majority of Europeans, who do not want rearmament or the prolongation of the conflict?

If we are against autocratic regimes that censor Western media and opposition voices, why are dissenting opinions ignored and Russian media shut down?

If we say that we oppose autocratic regimes, why is it that in Europe decisions are made by a few bureaucrats led by France and the United Kingdom (which is not even part of the EU), while the other 26 countries are not considered?

Suppose we claim that we must defend ourselves against aggressive people. What should African countries do to protect themselves from an aggressive Europe that, through its colonialism, has subjugated and exploited them for centuries?

If we are against US protectionism, why do we adopt protectionist policies against products from other countries?

Why don’t we condemn Israel for the crimes against humanity recognised by international institutions, the same ones we respect when they condemn Russia?

If we fight for the freedom and democracy of the Ukrainian people, why don’t we allow them to decide their own destiny autonomously, instead of sustaining a President whose mandate expired almost a year ago?

If capitalism generates poverty, injustice, hunger, pain, and war, why don’t we abandon it and evolve towards new forms of social economy based on reciprocity and progress for all?

Why, in order to get out of the crisis, does the West always have to find an enemy to fight against? Why can’t we establish true relationships of friendship and collaboration with other people? Why does each one of us always have to find an enemy in our lives to blame for our own failure?

Why don’t we free ourselves from the mental prison in which we are locked up?

Why don’t we overcome individualism and learn to converge, to build— starting with ourselves, our neighbourhood, our association or organisation— a great peaceful, humanist, non-violent movement?
